BEAUTY

Hi,

I am back from a very, very great retrait !! We have had so much fun together. The pattern we did was great. The result from everyone was lovely.

Here you see what I make . The pattern is from the book Radiant New York Beauties by Valori Wells . The blocks we made are about 6 inch small. ( 15 cm) We enlarged the pattern from the book 150% I like the size very much! It is made on the machine with paperpiecing . Before this I never like paperpiecing, but now......I can't STOP. It is so great with this pattern to see what the fabric is doing. For the corners it is good to use a fabric with a large print . They come out so lovely! So you see it is a difficult block with a great result. I am very enthousiastic and I can recomment you all to try it and make a block !!

Here I am with Karin, she is very good friend !!
I am the one with the glasses :c)

FUN,FUN, FUN, the whole weekend we laughed so much,
that I have now pain in my 'cheekmuscles'

Lucy -

I love your New York Beauty blocks. They are gorgeous! I have always admired that block but the paper pieceing intimidates me a little!

Thanks for sharing!

Hoi Lucy! I am so glad you posted the pics! I was noticing how GREEN it is near you....everything here has gone brown! Even the grass in the yard..brown brown brown! Leaves are all off the trees....really looking like winter here, and it is so green for you!

I want to know if you wait until the whole block is pieced before you remove the paper? Is it hard to sew the curved sections together with the paper still there?

It sounds like you had a wonderful weekend...good friends, lots of quilting and a beautiful result! Congratulations on taking some time for YOU...we all need that occasionally! :o)

We only paper pieced the points. Then rip off the paper and we sew the curves without paper. I never thought it was so 'easy'.
Normaly it isn't so green here but we have had a unusual warm autumn here that everything is still green

Love your blocks, Lucy! They look really great. I a huge fan of the New York Beauty, but have never thought I could "do" it..all those points...maybe with them paper pieced. So glad to hear you had a good time....welcome back...I'm looking forward to seeing more blocks.

Lucy!

Your Beauties are just that--Beautiful! Great work and your colors are splendid.

I have wanted to make Valori's contemporary Beauties for quite some time...still in my mind...just need to find the time.

How was the canoe trip? Did you get it in the water...or were you just having fun on the sea of grass? Cute pic!

Lucy- My, You have been busy while I was gone! I love the picture of your daughter- she is enchanting. I am so glad you decided to post something other than "just" quilts. Your sampler is beautiful. My DH especially likes samplers. They can be time consuming, but aren't they worth it? I am so glad that you got to try paper-peicing the New York Beauty block and that you are enjoying the process. I did a small "pickle dish" once and enjoyed it. I can't imagine doing all those points without paper-piecing. It sounds like you had a great time at your retreat. You do beautiful work.

Lucy - your quilt is great! I really like the colors. I enjoy paper piecing - I give all the blocks to my DH (dear husband) to pick out the papers, and he doesn't mind.

Cheers!
