Amish

Today I received a book about Amish quilts in my mailbox.
Wow.... these quilts have power!! The patterns are beautiful in their simplicity. And I am impressed by the quilting of the Amish ! The quilting is definitely a forgotten part these days. I am so inspired!

Since last week I have the book Quilting with style by Gwen Marston too. It is a great book with on the first page also a 'strong' quilt. In this book you learn all about quiltingdesigns and all in Gwen's words :-) Now I want to learn how to make my own feathers etc.etc.

But I have to finish my new applique quilt first.I am quilting it and with my new books I have all the inspirations I need :-))

Over 53 nights sleep ..... I am on an airplane to AMERICA!!!
It is so exciting. Iwill see Bonnie again :-) , we are going to Paducah and we will meet over there Dawn,Laura,Linda and even two Dutch friends from Amsterdam there. ( yes I know I meet the Dutch ladies in a very roundabout way. LOL )

applique

I want to let you all know that I am still alive :-). The snow has melted and today was a sunny day ..... MMMM spring?

I am working on an appliqué quilt. It is a sample for a class I am going to teach in Amsterdam. I don't want to show my progress at this time, because I know that some members of the group take a peek so now and then at my blog... There must be some surprises left ;-)
I can tell you that I am very satisfied with the result so far !! I can't stop working on it!It is so fun to do. After 3 March I will show you the whole quilt.

Winter and Memories

It is snowing. The world is so beautiful!!

My lips are a bit chapped......
I take my tin with lipcream. It brings a smile on my face, because I bought it on our trip to America.I smear a little bit of cream on my lips. It's the smell, and the 'cold' feeling from the cream on my lips. I close my eyes and I am back in Yellow Stone ....

Ikea

My daughter Natasja bought a bedside cupboard at Ikea. Well a bedside cupboard from Ikea means that you get it like this!!!

My DH has only time to put the parts together at the weekend.. And you all know know how women are (especially young women from 15) It needed to be done immediately.
Natasja says to me with her sweetest face that her mom can do everything... Well, I don't want to disappoint her faith in me....so I grab the screwdriver and there I go !

We are very traditional in my family. We have men's work and we have women's work. I need to say that it works and we are all happy with it. Normally my DH does things like this... Tho I think Ikea knows how women are ( impatient) because you get this bedside cupboard with perfect instructions... (or don't you think that the perfect instructions are for men who are not so handy but they want to look handy, strong and masculine ;-) )

Anyway I love the instructions

My daughter has a very small room in the attic. We had to measure if the bedside cupboard fits next to her bed with or without feet ......

And if you have a good eye you can see that I am wearing an apron at this point and not when I started ... Yes this took me so much time that I made our dinner meanwhile.

Finally Finished !!!!! ( and don't ask me how dinner was .....LOL)
