New room

Last week we cleaned and painted our living room. We avoided doing this for almost two years! Spring is coming and we decided we couldn’t put it off anymore!

I had an old pink chair that I loved, but it was sagging badly and it's too costly to restore it. Isn't it sad that it is cheaper to buy a new chair, probably made in a third world country rather than restoring an old chair from the 20's? I thought there might be another solution. I searched on Marktplaats (a kind of eBay) and I found this chair for 6 euros (about 10 USD)! It looks almost exactly like the chair I had, and it's in a good condition. It only needed a new cover and I can do that myself. This is the result!

I also painted my red bookcase the same off white as the woodwork. I tidied away a lot of books and papers that don't have a special meaning. That created a lot of room! I also like the fact that my toy sewing collection shows up a lot better with the white walls and bookcase.

Do you remember my brown quiltrack. My Dh made it white and aged it. I LOVE the result :-)

My new fresh white room needs a new wall hanging. A quilt Kathie started inspired me. You can find it in The Ultimate Quilting by McCormick Gordon. As pink is my favourite colour I came up with the idea of making a mini quilt with the same feel about it. I can't wait to quilt it (and yes I know some of you are thinking: "How is Pim's quilt coming along?").

Lastly let me show you a bag I made using Bonnies Maverick stars. It is a sample for the quilt shop . I will be teaching a class to make the bag.

That’s all! This was my update from my fresh new spring looking room.

All I can say is "oh" to everything in your brand new room. And "aah". The new chair, so welcoming and fresh. The room must look so much bigger with the bookcase revived. The sewing machine collection. Oh my! And there's ms. Trumbull casually enjoying new views. And how wonderful the little quilt turned out. The bag is gorgeous, just waiting to be picked up and taken to market :-D This girl would like to tag along - can I please? Take care and enjoy spring!

Dear Lucy,

I enjoy each and every one of your posts. Thanks for the virtual tour. I had a makeover today...check out my new do.

I wanted to do just a few maverick stars. A tote is the perfect place to put them.

That´s exactly what we have been planing for too long a time too. But I dread having to pack a whole full wall bookshelf. Just looking at your new living room gives me energy (well just a bit!). It is so "gemütlich". The new chair is a hit. And the miniquilt and the bags just too cute. Take care.

Everything is awesome! I love it all, the chair, the new look, the sewing machines really pop now and your quilt rack looking antique is fantastic. I'm been thinking about doing that to mine but can't decide. You must really be feeling good now, I feel wonderful after seeing these great photos.

Oh, everything is so airy, clean and spacious !! I am working hard to achieve that result at my place, but it never really lasts... I had cleaned and reorganized my sewing room and my kitchen last week, and it's just an old memory now !!! How can this happen ???
Congratulations, you did a very good job. An inspiration to me, for sure ! I'll get down to it again tomorrow !

Your room looks great Lucy! Spring is definately in the air as so many are working on refreshing rooms in their houses out there in blogland. I am doing it here in our house and at the cottage. The chair from Marktplaats is great and what a bargain. I also love your latest little quilt. What a sweet thing it has become. I can't wait for things to calm down here so I can finish a small tabletopper quilt that is almost ready to sew on the border and start quilting.

Hugs ~
Heidi
