Enthusiastic I started cutting and sewing. After a few blocks I thought that the blocks became big, very BIG :-/
I looked up to the original in the book and then I realise that I made a mistake in the calculation. Well what could I do? I had already sewn 5 blocks! So I kept going on and after a few days...
I could let the wind play with this finished top :-)
The feeling I feel when I see the farms in Friesland!
So nice to capture in a quilt the wonderful feeling I had at the small quilt show in the little church.

Drawing made by Rien Poortvliet
finished block size: 22.50 inch !!!!!

Lucy,
I love the fabrics that you choose for your log cabin quilt. Your quilt looks very old. Thanks for sharing your project with us!
This is a really cool big block quilt. I really like it.
I love it! The big blocks look great!
The big blocks make it look authentically old!!! Looks like something my grandmother would have made. She made utility quilts and all the pieces were big! Love it!
I love the big block log cabin...looks lovely!
Absolutely wonderful-you made NO miscalculation, it was meant to be just this way. The fabrics are perfect choices.
It's funny because we are used to admire some wonderful mini quilts and now, this is a gorgeous big one !! I love it !!

The books sounds very interesting!
I LOVE this big-block quilt. How wide were your strips? (Maybe you can put that info in your next posting on your blog???) I'd love to make something like this, too.

Very nice. The bigger the better!
You definitely captured the cozy feeling of a big snuggly quilt. Friesland looks like a fantastic place to visit. It reminds me- we are reading Beowulf for school right now, as my son is doing an intensive research on Vikings. I have never read Beowulf, it is great!
you totally captured the feeling! hmm..I can just smell the cow manure and cut grass...wonderful!
That is a gorgeous quilt. I love how the log cabin squares create this larger pattern--just so elegantly done. The colors all harmonize but are also lively. Just lovely. Congratulations!
HI Lucy
I have ordered the book, thanks for sharing

Hi Lucy! Since I am just back from a 11 day stay at our little cottage in Friesland, it was fun to read about this quilt giving you the feeling you have when you are there. I just love Friesland! Your new quilt is beautiful and very country looking. How big did it turn out to be? Is it for a bed?
Off to catch up on the other blog entries that I have missed from you...
